The Marna Barrett Award for Excellence in Psychotherapy (MBAEP) is established to award and support research excellence for the study of psychotherapeutic treatments of mental disorders that disrupt lives and inhibit the pursuit of well-being, and also to promote the supervision, training, and mentorship of psychotherapy trainees.
Marna S. Barrett, PhD, was a committed member of SPR, who served as Executive Officer of the organization from June 2016 until her death from cancer in May 2020. During her long association with the Mood & Anxiety Treatment Research Center at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Marna demonstrated her gifts as a researcher, psychotherapist, teacher, and mentor. Indisputably, she had a positive effect on the lives of many.
The MBAEP was established by Marna’s family to honor her contributions to psychotherapy research and to SPR, and to all those with whom she interacted, including her clients, members of SPR, and many others. SPR members and others are encouraged to contribute to the MBAEP fund to ensure its continuation. The cash award is initially anticipated to be $10,000.
